We are located on the southwest corner of Robinson and Porter Avenue in Norman.
Boomer Veterinary Hospital is the ONLY Fear Free Certified Practice in Norman! We want pets to have the best experience possible, which is why we believe in Fear Free practices and not separating you from your pet during examinations. We treat your pet as we would treat our own and we try to keep the warm small town feel to our hospital. Please remember to bring your pet hungry. This helps in 2 ways. First if we need to draw blood, then your pet’s blood won’t have a lot of fat in it which gives altered results. Second and most important, we will be giving your pets treats. Treats will help your pet feel at ease rather than stressed for a doctor’s appointment. This helps us help them reduce stress and anxiety, and in turn, helps them get a better exam. Thank you for helping us help them! |
Building & ParkingWe have an older but sturdy building with a very unique history. The property was originally granted to Hugh Jones on April 26, 1892 for $200 along with 160 acres. From there, it was sold and sold again, and at one point for $1 to the City of Norman in 1894 to help create the town we live in. Our specific site functioned as Clapton Service Station from 1938 to 1981 owned by several different petroleum companies. In 1981-1982, Dr. Sergio San Pedro, a cardiologist, purchased the service station and began construction to create the current building. In 1992, Dr. Stanley, a veterinarian from Kansas State University, purchased the building adding the kennel and converting it into a veterinary practice. When Robinson was widened, the front parking area was cut in half. In 2021, Dr. Stanley retired and sold the building to Dr. Denton to continue on the practice which he so lovingly enjoyed. She has added her own minor cosmetic touches to make it a practice that everyone will continue to enjoy for years to come.

After Hours Medication Pick UpWe understand that many our clients work and it can be hard to stop by. For this reason, we have 3 locking mailboxes located at the back side of our fence adjacent to the gate. A camera monitors medications as well. Each lock box has a unique code that we will give you to pick up your pet's medication.

LobbyOr lobby features free guest Wi-Fi while you wait and a Blue Air HEPA filter to prevent disease spread. We have many magazines for you to choose from while you wait, and music to soothe you and your pet's mind. On the wall, there is a case of oddities such as bladder stones and antique syringes! We also have fecal kits available right by the door for you to take home and return. All dogs must be kept on a 6ft or shorter leash. Flexi or retractable leashes are not allowed. All cats must be in carriers, and loose cats or cats on leashes are not allowed in our lobby. Rudeness toward staff is not tolerated: bad clients are easier to replace than good staff and no one gets paid enough to be yelled at. We will absolutely try to help you and your pet in any way we can though!

SurgeryOur surgical suite is equipped with the most up to date anesthesia, surgical, and monitoring equipment to ensure your pet's safety and comfort. All animals undergoing surgery have their blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels monitored throughout the procedure. Our doctor believes strongly in providing pain management before, during, and after the procedure. Our surgical services include spay/neutering, lacerations/abscesses, tumor removal, abdominal surgery, ear and eye surgeries, reproductive, oral/periodontal surgery.
Our anesthesia machine is special in that it does not require O2 tanks making it more environmentally friendly, but instead utilizes oxygen concentration from the natural air for your pet. Our surgery table is heated so that your pet does not get cold while in a procedure which delays recovery. Your pet's wellbeing is our top priority, which is why we invested in a surgical cutting laser which reduces blood loss and aids tissue healing. The difference in healing time and pain reduction is quite impressive and we recommend the surgical laser for almost all of our surgical procedures. |

We offer discounted wellness packages that include blood work, heartworm or FeLV/FIV testing, and intestinal parasite testing with our yearly wellness vaccination exams.

RadiologyWe have a Direct Vet X-ray system with an ExamVue Duo computer system. We use Asteris to integrate our X-ray system into our practice management software EzyVet. Because of this integration, which took a lot of time to set up, you should (in theory when it works) be able to access all of your pet’s digital X-ray views via the Pet Portal under the Diagnostics tab.
We use a portable Canon XRD for our digital dental X-rays that works with MyVetDent computer system. This also integrates into our practice management software EzyVet, and you should be able to access all of your pet’s digital dental X-ray views via the Pet Portal under the Diagnostics tab. |
GroomingThe majority of dog grooming is performed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and certain Thursdays by Mika. Kanda is available to groom cats on select Cat Only Thursdays. Aggressive pets are sedated for the safety of your pet and our staff. We installed a beautiful Flying Pig grooming tub with a ramp for pet baths. We also have a Flying Pig grooming table, a K9 II dryer, and a cat box dryer. Your pet’s wellbeing is our primary concern so we require all pets left in our care to be fully vaccinated and parasite free.

KennelsOur kennel features 30 Shor-Line kennels. These kennels are extremely safe and sturdy designed for the pet in mind. Pets that are dropped off are required to be fully vaccinated for their age or breed to prevent contagious diseases from being transferred from one pet to another. We also require pets to be parasite free prior to being dropped off, because fleas, ticks and worms are just gross! We believe it is important for pets to be comfortable during their stay here.

We have 3 exam rooms: one very spacious room specifically for dogs, one room for our furry felines, and a 3rd room for walk-ins and nurse appointments. Each room also features free guest Wi-Fi while you wait and a Blue Air HEPA filter to prevent disease spread. We believe in a positive experience with your pet, and your pet will not be taken from you to "the back." We believe your pet is best behaved with you. Two of our exam rooms have sinks and our dog room has an ultrasound. We also have Technidyne exam tables that lift and weighs pets!
